Glutamin er en af de 20 naturligt forekommende aminosyrer i protein. Specifikt bliver det betegnet som en essentiel syre, da den især er i brug, når kroppen er syg eller ved forekomst af muskelspild – eksempelvis, hvis du har været ude for fysiske traumer. Den findes i høj koncentrat naturligt i kød og æg.
Glutamin er en utrolig effektiv når det kommer til sundhedsforbindelser mellem tarm- og immunsystem. Glutamin kategoriseres som en muskelopbyggende aminosyre, men det er ikke bevist, at den kan forbedre musklerne hos sunde individer – kun dem, som har været udsat for fysiske traumer, såsom brand- og knivofre eller dem, som lider af muskelsvindende sygdomme, som for eksempel HIV.
Under intens træning bliver glutamin-depoterne hurtigt opbrugte, hvilket fører til nedsat styrke, udholdenhed og restitutionsevne. Det kan tage helt op til seks dage for dine glutamin-niveauer at nå op på et normalt niveau, og glutamin spiller en væsentlig rolle i proteinsyntese – altså at undgå at din krop bliver ”spist op”.
Glutamin er perfekt til de mennesker, som ønsker at ”skære fra”. Eksempelvis om sommeren, når man gerne vil af med lidt kropsfedt men uden på bekostningen af at miste muskelmasse. Derudover er det et stop, som bliver brugt i hele kroppen.
Glutamin er også en essentiel faktor for at vedligeholde et sundt immunsystem. Bodybuildere er eksempelvis meget mere tilbøjelige til at blive syge, fordi immunforsvaret er svækket, når glutamin-niveauet er lavt. Derfor er et glutamin-tilskud nødvendigt – det betyder ikke, det hjælper dig med at øge din muskelmasse, men det sørger for, at din krop ikke lider overlast, når du træner.
